While I was surfing the net today I came across a familiar artist by the name of Ryan8bit, that participated in the Dark Side of Phobos compilation/sampler that was discussed on geek\o/sphere before. According to his lastfm page, most of ryan’s songs are metal covers of videogame related themes such as the ones from Megaman, Descent and Zelda (to mention some of them).

Check out his songs, I assure you it’s worth it :>

Music for Everyone… and the Others.

Was will man mehr?

Zelda Reorchestrated!

While siyb is still rebuilding his homeserver and thus our news bot is down I can take some time to publish this post I created a few days ago. This goes into the free music/free mp3s section again and I must say that I really like it although I’ve never really finished a Zelda “level”. It’s kinda retro style but the quality is very good, must say that the artists behind this project achieved their goal to create something realistic, atmospheric and enjoyable. Lay back (or start your SNES emulator) and check this:

What is ZREO?

ZREO stands for Zelda Reorchestrated. It is our goal to transcribe the musical masterpieces that you have heard in the greatest video game series ever created: The Legend of Zelda! Our goal is to give each and every song from The Legend of Zelda series a realistic and atmospheric sound with the quality that you would expect from such film composers as John Williams, Howard Shore, and James Horner.

We don’t look to seek profit or fame. This is merely our own form of artistic expression that stems from The Legend of Zelda. If it weren’t for Zelda, ZREO wouldn’t exist. So we are grateful to have such a legendary video game series that can pull so much inspiration out of us.

ZREO began in October of 2004. While it was shut down due to financial issues in january 2006, it has fortunately been revived and you can download a load of tracks at their website.

Download all the music from several mirrors at ZREOmusic.com

Machinae Supremacy! C64 + Metal = Awesomeness

Yay for Sid Metal! (thanks to Zhenech <3)

machinae supremacy

Machinae Supremacy is a metal band from Luleå, Sweden. They achieve a unique style through use of a special synthesizer called a Sidstation, which incorporates the sound chip of the Commodore 64 home computer. The retro-electronic sound is blended with a traditional metal sound to produce a special kind of “SID-metal” (SID - Sound Interface Device).

They had already made their place in history by being one of the first bands to embrace and utilize the internet and file sharing to gain a huge fanbase without ever having signed a record contract, received airplay or any sponsored promotion. They’ve reached out to all corners of the world and today their site receives roughly 100,000 song downloads every month.

Dude, i love it. Get to know them now:

The dark side of Phobos

The Dark Side of Phobos was an OverClocked Remix site project that had the intent to mix a large portion of the soundtrack to one of the most important games of the first person shooter genre, DooM. The project was created in the wake of Kong in Concert and was originally maintained by klm09. After some months, the project began to slip away into obscurity and in November of 2004 I was asked to take control of the project and try to salvage it. After months of hard work on the part of all the mixers, controversy and arguments, and artists dropping and picking up songs (amongst other travesties) we are finally here, at the end: The successful completion of The Dark Side of Phobos.” - http://doom.ocremix.org/

Get this remix album, awesome shit, a must for for the standard issue DooM fan :>
