Linux ist nichts für Spieler? Wer sagt das? Neben den Möglichkeiten, aktuelle Spiele mit Emulatoren wie Cedega oder Wine zum Laufen zu bringen gibt es auch eine Menge, die nativ unter Linux laufen. Eigens dafür haben wir nun eine neue Rubrik eingerichtet, in der wir euch nach und nach die besten Spiele vorstellen möchten.
Einsteigen werden wir heute mit Wormux, Pengupop und Battle for Wesnoth.
Linux not for gamers? Who said that? Besides the possibility to work with emulators like Cedega or Wine, there are a lot of games which work natively under linux. So with this post we’re starting a new category here where we will try to introduce them all – at least the best ones.
Today we’ll begin with Wormux, Pengupop and Battle for Wesnoth.
WORMUX
Wormux ist ein Worms Clone welcher auf Cartoon-Skins setzt. Das Spielprinzip sowie die Handhabung halten sich an das Original. Unterschiede bemerkt man jedoch recht schnell, zum Beispiel ist der Wind noch nicht so entscheidend wie bei Worms und man vermisst die coolen Sounds von Worms.
Im Endeffekt geht es in dem Spiel darum, die gegnerische Truppe zu vernichten. Dabei kann man aus bekannten Namen der Linux Szene wählen, so gibt es unter anderem das PHP, das Mozilla oder das Beastie Team (*BSD). Man ist im Spiel mit 22 verschiedenen Waffentypen ausgestattet, den größten Teil hat man von Anfang an zur Auswahl, der Rest kommt im Spiel nach und nach mit den Versorgungsfallschirmen vom Himmel.
Wormux is a Worms clone with cartoon skins. The handling and feeling is quite similar to the original. But you can see differences when it comes to the sounds (the Worms sounds rocked) or details like the emphasis on wind strength.
The objective of the game is to eliminate the opposing team. You can chose your favorite team out of a pool with names like PHP, Mozilla or Beastie Team (*BSD). Ingame there are 22 weapons to use, the most of them are availaible from the beginning. Throughout the game you may gain more weapons which will fall from the sky.
Zur Zeit kann man mit 4 Spielern gleichzeitig an einem PC spielen, was den Spaß-Faktor schon extrem nach oben setzt. In einiger Zeit soll auch noch eine Netzwerkplatform implementiert werden, so dass bis zu 4 Spielern via LAN gegeneinander spielen können.
Wormux ist nicht nur auf Linux spielbar, unter anderem werden auch Windows, MacOS und *BSD unterstützt. Mehr Informationen unter wormux.org.
You can play with four players at the same time on the same computer which is a lot of fun already. However, there are plans to support multiplayer action via ethernet in one of the next versions.

PENGUPOP
Pengupop ist ein Multiplayer Clone des famosen Arcade Klassikers Bust-A-Move, auch bekannt als
Puzzle Bobble oder Frozen Bubble. Ziel des Spieles ist es, sich durch das gezielte Schiessen von farbigen Kugeln der im Spielfeld oben angeordneten Kugeln zu entledigen. Hängen drei gleiche Kugeln aneinander verschwinden sie. Der Clou im Mehrspieler-Modus: fallen Kugeln herab, weil sie an verschwindenden Kugeln hingen, bekommt sie der Gegner rüber geschickt. Das macht das Spiel taktisch anspruchsvoller und erhöht den Spielspass enorm.
Pengupop is a multiplayer clone of the famous arcade Bust-A-Move, also known as
Puzzle Bobble or Frozen Bubble. Similar to Tetris, the field of play is filled with coloured balls. The goal of the game is to shoot balls so that three identically coloured-balls form a group which are removed from the field then and wipe the field with that technique. Balls hanging on removed balls vanish also but appear on the opponents screen. This makes the game more interesting from the strategic point of view and adds a lot of fun.
Ich stelle hier die Version von junoplay vor, da sie noch einige weitere tolle Features mitbringt. Verfügt man über eine Anbindung ins Internet findet man im Spiel selbst immer schnell einen Gegner. Spiel-Ergebnisse und Statistiken kann man hinterher auf der Website verfolgen, jeder Spieler erhält eine eigene Profilseite.
Toll finde ich auch die Möglichkeit, komplette Spiele als Flashvideos anschauen zu können. Eine kurze Runde, in der ich Zhenech ziemlich gepwned habe, könnt Ihr in diesem Post betrachten ;-)
Pengupop lässt sich sehr gut unter Linux spielen, ist aber auch nativ für Windows sowie MacOs verfügbar und somit hervorragend für langweilige Unterrichtsstunden im Informatikunterricht geeignet (*g*). Download, Highscores und Informationen gibt es auf junoplay.com.
This review is about die version of junoplay, because it has some features I really like. If you’re connected to the internet you can always find an opponent quite quickly. Afterwards you can track your score and statistics on the website, each player gets his own profile.
Another nice feature is the possibility to watch your games as flash videos. A short round in which i pwned Zhenech is available in this post ;-)

BATTLE FOR WESNOTH
“Battle for Wesnoth” ist ein rundenbasiertes Strategiespiel, dass es für einige Plattformen gibt. Es hat als Szenario eine Fantasiewelt mit Elfen, Drachen und Magiern in einem schönen Stil der an Comics erinnert. Das Spielfeld ist isometrisch gestaltet und das Menü besteht aus einer oberen Leiste mit dem Menü und Informationen wie Resourcen und einer Seitenleiste mit der Karte und Einheiteninformationen. Die Steuerung wird von der Maus erledigt in dem man auf der rechten Maustaste ein Menü hat und mit der linken Maustaste seine Auswahl im Menü oder auf dem Spielfeld trifft.
“Battle for Wesnoth” is a turn-based strategy game, that is available on several platforms. It has a fantasy theme with elves, dragons and mages in a pretty style that reminds of comics. The playground is isometric and the menu is seperated in two parts, at the top there is the menu and informations about the resources, on the right side is the map and a box with unit-informations. The game is controlled by the mouse, the right mouse button opens a menu and the left mouse button is for selecting.
Das Spiel bietet eine Einführung, Kampagnen, Mehrspielermodus und auch viele Erweiterungen mit neuen Karten die mit dem Editor des Spiels erstellt wurden. Es gestaltet sich so, dass zu Beginn Einheiten in der Burg ausgebildet werden müssen die dann rundenweise über das Spiefeld gezogen werden. Dabei werden neutrale Dörfer übernommen um den Goldvorrat, die Resource im Spiel mit der man Einheiten kauft, zu sichern oder gegnerische Einheiten anzugreifen. Im Kampf wählt man zwischen Nahkampf und Fernkampf falls möglich. Das Ziel ist meist, den gegnerischen Führer zu töten, daher sollte man auch immer auf seinen Eigenen achten.

The game contains a tutorial campaign, a multiplayer mode and many extensions with new maps, made with the editor provided by the game. In the beginning you get a castle to train units, that you navigate over the map. You have to conquer neutral villages to get gold, that you need to buy units, or you attack enemy units. The fight offers you melee or range, if possible. The goal is often to kill the enemy leader, so you should always keep an eye on your own leader, too.

Find ich auch gut, Wesnoth ist ein tolles Spiel ;). Neulich hab ich mal wieder ein paar neue coole Spiele unter Linux gespielt: OpenLierox, Pingus, CRRCSIM, Liquid War…
