ICQ aka “I seek you” got mad(e)

Regarding to the latest problems the whole ICQ network is facing (yeah it’s not only the smartass guys using alternative clients this time but everybody) and the fact that our own jabber server and indeed all jabberservers in the world are running I want to say the following to ICQ:
I think this is just the perfect moment to tell people about jabber and that it will always keep working as long as one server in the internet is still working ;)
This isn’t about telling you how sweet our own jabberd is (it is in fact) but about telling people to use open standards as it’s really easy installing a messenger of your choice.

Like “zomg, jabber.org is down again” or “zomg meh personal jabberserver won’t connect to jabber.foo.meh and I don’t know why” or “Uh, I r teh leet, got meh own jabber serv0r.”. Crappy crap all along.

yeah, only that I had less problems with jabber all the time than with icq ;) and in fact I don’t remember the last time my jabber server went off

well icq biggest flaw is that it is not encrypted (as far as i know), except if you use clients like gaim which feature encryption for all networks.

yeah… and using gaim it’s not that hard to add a jabber account

well it won’t work with ssl and our jabber server, think that is due to the self signed cert, we really gotta get rid of that :>

I used it but atm I don’t because bitlbee doesn’t support it yet
