I own an Asus A6Q00VA, it seems to be the most crappy laptop ever build in regards to Linux support. First of all, the touchpad can not be found AT ALL, nothing helped, about three other people were trying to get it working, with no result. Secondly the ATI x700 mobility, which comes with this craptop does not seem to work correctly, I tried fglrx and the OSS drives provided by my distribution (Debian unstable), glxinfo | grep direct returned the correct results but my 3D acceleration still does not work UNLESS I disable acpi or unplug the laptop’s power supply (how fucked up is that?!?).

Well, since I was using this laptop for writing sourcecode and documenting stuff, rather than playing games, I was not bothered by the fact that my graphics adapter screwed up, the useless touchpad didn’t bother me either. Now, the usb hub seems to fail on me, I have tried 4 different mice now but all of them follow a strange behaviour, they seem to emulate a doubbleklick whenever I press either mouse button, I have even reinstalled Linux because I though I fucked something up (this was due to my desperation and the need for a working mouse, remember I do not have a working touchpad), but it really seems to be the hardware. Another aspect is that the laptop coolers sound like plane engines and still don’t cool as they are supposed to. I could literally boil an egg on this POS (piece of shit).

I finally used a “send in” form to message asus, that is a feature on their website. They have a field for additinal information, where you can leave up to 150 characters, no URL etc (they identify “.” as a special, not allowed character). So the only thing they know is that about half of their product is broken, I really hope that I get the chance to give more sophisticated information.

Well I am pretty frustrated, I found scanned Asus repair receipt some time ago, which stated:

“Asus does not support linux, recover Windows”

I really thought this was a friggn joke, but now I know better. I advise you NOT to buy an Asus laptop if you plan on installing Linux, I have seen this kind of crap happen on other people’s Asus laptops and it’s not worth it, I paid 1200€ for something that does not work as it is supposed to. I will keep you guys informed about the status of this issue, perhaps their support devision is a bit more competent than their development team …
